Inspired by the places that shape us.

Every artwork begins with a photograph, but it rarely ends there.

For many years I became known for creating atmospheric long exposure landscapes, using time and light to reveal a quieter, more contemplative view of the world. That body of work remains an important part of the work I continue to create today.

Increasingly, however, I found myself drawn to a different question:

What happens after the photograph?

That question has led me into an evolving creative practice where photography becomes the starting point rather than the destination. Through fine art printing and, in selected works, encaustic wax, texture and mixed media, each piece develops through a process of exploration, interpretation and transformation.

Although much of my work begins in the landscape, my curiosity extends to architecture, the natural world and other places where light, atmosphere and memory combine to create something beyond simple description.

Rather than recording a place exactly as it appeared, I seek to create work that evokes how it felt to be there.

Each artwork is handcrafted, allowing the original photograph to evolve into something more tactile, personal and timeless. My hope is that these pieces invite the viewer to pause, reflect and reconnect with places that linger in the memory long after the moment has passed.

Photography is where my work begins. From there, every artwork is shaped by curiosity, craftsmanship and a desire to create something that reaches beyond the original image.

Experience

John was awarded the Fellowship distinction (FRPS) by the Royal Photographic Society in 2019 for his landscape photography. He later served as a Distinctions Assessor for the Society's Landscape and Visual Art panels, assessing Associate and Fellowship submissions.

He is also an Honorary Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography (Hon.FBIPP) and a Fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation (FIPF).

John's work has evolved over many years through observation, experimentation and a continuing desire to push beyond the boundaries of traditional photography.

Talks, Workshops and Collections

John regularly speaks on creativity, artistic vision and the creative process, sharing his experience with photographic societies, camera clubs and other organisations. Through talks, workshops, writing and mentoring, he enjoys encouraging others to discover and develop their own artistic voice.

His original artworks and limited editions are held in private collections and are increasingly created for contemporary homes, workplaces and interior spaces.
