About the Artist

Inspired by the places that shape us.

Every artwork begins with a photograph, but it rarely ends there.

Photography has been at the heart of my creative practice for many years. My early work focused on atmospheric landscapes, using time, light and long exposure to explore a quieter, more contemplative view of the world.

But increasingly, I became interested in what happens after the photograph.

Today, photography is the starting point for an evolving artistic practice. Through fine-art printing and, in selected works, encaustic wax, texture and mixed media, I explore how an image can be transformed into something more tactile, expressive and personal.

I am a Canson Infinity International Ambassador, reflecting my particular interest in the craft, materials and quality of fine-art photographic printing.

My work begins in the places I encounter, but extends beyond them — into architecture, nature, memory and abstraction. I am less interested in simply recording somewhere I have looked than in evoking how it felt to be there.

Each artwork develops through a process of exploration and interpretation. The original photograph may remain visible, or it may become simply the foundation for something much more abstract.

Photography is where my work begins. From there, the image becomes an artwork.

Experience

My photographic practice has evolved over more than thirty years through observation, experimentation and a continuing desire to explore what an image can become. Photography remains central to my work, but increasingly it provides the foundation for a broader artistic practice.

I was awarded the Fellowship distinction (FRPS) by the Royal Photographic Society in 2019 for my work on long exposure landscape photography. I later served as a Distinctions Assessor for the Society's Landscape and Visual Art panels, assessing Associate and Fellowship submissions until 2026.

I am also an Honorary Fellow of the British Institute of Professional Photography (Hon.BIPP) and a Fellow of the Irish Photographic Federation (FIPF).

My work has been exhibited in juried exhibitions including the Royal Ulster Academy Annual Exhibition.

Talks, Workshops & Collections

I regularly speak about creativity, artistic vision and the creative process, sharing my experience of photography and the evolution of my wider artistic practice. Through talks, workshops, writing and mentoring, I enjoy encouraging others to discover and develop their own artistic voice.

My original artworks and limited editions are held in private collections and are increasingly created for contemporary homes, workplaces and interior spaces.
