Alarm Clocks and Porridge……..

The alarm goes off and I look at the clock. It’s just after 5am and still totally dark on this October morning. The family is still asleep and after a quick shower, a bowl of porridge (we photographers need our nourishment) and a cup of tea, Sam the three legged Springer Spaniel and I set off towards the Mourne Mountains in Northern Ireland. As we near our destination, we watch as the first hints of dawn start to glow on the horizon.

Then, around 7.30am, standing on the rocks by the shore, the sun pushes over the horizon and lights the rocks around me with the most wonderful soft golden morning light. This is what makes the early starts and everything the weather can throw at you totally worthwhile. I know that, should I ever need reminding, this is precisely why I’m a landscape photographer!

Landscape photography is one of the most popular forms of photography undertaken today, evidenced not least by dedicated magazines and websites on this very subject. I myself have been taking travel and landscape photographs for well over 20 years and still get that same sense of elation each time I take pictures as I did when I saw my very first print all those years ago.

With my background in landscape and travel photography, I came to the decision last year that I wanted to bring my images together in one place and a new website seemed a logical way to enable more people to access my images.  It is therefore with great pleasure that I can announce that the website is now complete and can be found at www.johnmiskelly.co.uk

As this is an important part of my creative expression as a professional photographer, over the next year I’m aiming to produce an exhibition of my work and also intend writing a regular blog/newsletter on all aspects of landscape photography. Therefore, if you know of anyone who may be interested in any of this, please ask them to sign up to updates via the website or send me an email directly. Also, you have been subscribed due to the fact that I either know you or we have corresponded in the past. If you don’t wish to receive emails or blog updates in the future, then please let me know and I’ll remove you from the list.

So all that remains for me to say is, set that alarm and happy shooting!
